Photoshop: Maximum & Minimum Filter for Bokeh

The Maximum and Minimum filters Filter > Other are useful for modifying masks.

  • The Maximum Filter has the effect of applying a spread (dialation) – Spreading out the white and choking in the blacks.
  • The Minimum Filter has the effect of applying a choke (erosion) – spreading out the black and shrinking the white.

It works really well on non-masks as well, and, with Photoshop CC 2014 and the option to choose squareness/roundness, the maximum filter is really good at simulating some nice soft camera bokeh,
