Photoshop CS6: Allow Tool Recording in Actions

Screen shot 2013-01-09 at 1.59.15 PMActions in Photoshop CS6 gets the ability to record Tools (which I think means brushes, erasers, Dodge, Burn, Saturation..etc). Basically, any “Usage” of the tool, and not just the “selection” of the tool, can be recorded and played back. Between playbacks, you can switch tool settings (different size/color brush), go to a different layer….etc, so the play back is different.

  • Tools get recorded with “Use” and then some recording data is recorded
  • The playback seems to be hardwired to the canvas coordinate (based on upper left corner). Shifting ruler points don’t change the playback location
  • Changing the canvas size (at least when the ruler is on percentage) will stretch the playback

Conditionals

Photoshop CS6 with Creative Cloud also get Conditional Actions, which I liked and used a lot back with ImageReady. Glad to see it making a comeback, at least for those with the subscription service
