Photoshop CS6: Adjustment Layer Changes

Photoshop CS6 streamlined the way users interact with Adjustment layer controls for the better. I didn’t really notice things had changed until I realized I wasn’t getting stuck on things anymore!

  • The Adjustments Panel is pared down to just a set of dedicated icons for creating adjustment layers. If you like the icons better than the menu in the Layers Panel, then this is for you.
  • Adjusting the settings for your adjustment layer is shifted to a new Properties Panel. So the two screens of the Adjustment panel has basically been split so you no longer have to toggle back and forth between the two.
  • The Masks Panel, however, has disappeared, and is merged into the Properties Panel as well. So the Properties Panel is a toggle between the adjustment layer’s settings, and it’s mask. mimicking the way it is setup in the Layers Panel.

I find this setup much more intuitive than the CS5 setup, though the overall number of panels stays the same.
