Toggle between Text color and Text Frame color with [J]

    Indesign CS5. does not work.

      It should. I just tried it. Make sure you are not in the Type tool. Otherwise you just typed the letter J.

        Ah! It does work. Personally, I think it needs to be able to be switched on demand while typing.

        Well, if you want it to be able to do that while typing, you’d still have to stop typing to pick a color. So I don’t see how that would be any faster. Besides, regular typing will take up almost all of your keys on the keyboard anyway, so you wouldn’t really be left with a lot of choices.
        If you want to change the keyboard shortcut to some combination that won’t be intrusive while you type you can customize your keyboard shortcut in the edit>keyboard shortcuts… menu.
        The command is called “Toggle Text and Object Control”, under the “Tools” section for Product Area. set it to your own favorite thing and see if it’ll let you call it up while typing!
