Adobe Illustrator CS5: Add and Release Objects to the Perspective Grid

Some objects can’t be created in perspective and has to be attached to perspective afterwords. That, plus you’ve probably created some stuff in the past you want to use, right?

  • Text and Symbols can’t be created in perspective. So create them normally first.
  • Select object with the Perspective Selection Tool (Shift+V) and choose a plane (1,2,3)
  • Drag to the location and let go.

Or,

  • Make sure you have a plane active in the Active Plane Widget
  • Select the object
  • Then choose, Object> Perspective > Attach to Active Plane

To release an object from Perspective, select the Object> Perspective > Release with Perspective.

Keep in mind, when you attach or release an object from the perspective, it looks the same as it did before! The only difference is whether the coordinates are bound to the Perspective Grid, or to your normal Ruler. So be really careful which tool you choose in moving your objects!
