Adobe Illustrator CS5: Creating Objects In the Perspective Grid

Okay, so now we know how to set up our perspective grid, how to lock it down, which points we can move and which points we can’t, we can finally start drawing!

Drawing In Perspective

  • Display your Perspective Grid
  • Make sure the Active Plane Widget is selecting a perspective plane
  • Use your normal drawing tools and draw away!
  • When you want to move/duplicate your perspective object, don’t forget to use your Perspective Selection Tool.
  • Yes, your normal modifier keys work. If you want to ALT to copy a set of overlapping objects to recede to the vanishing point, the new Draw Behind mode is great for it.

Drawing Tools

  • Illustrator supports all of your basic geometry tools in perspective: Rectangles, polygons, ellipses
    • The Flare Tool no workie.
  • Drawing tools Pens, brushes, pencils, do not work. You can create your image and then bring it into the perspective grid.
  • Text and Symbols can be created outside and then brought into the perspective grid.
