Illustrator CS5 Perspective Grid: Vanishing Point Perspective System

Vanishing Point Perspective Systems rely on a few conventions to make the sense of depth believable. I think it’s important to know what they are and how they are applied.

  • Objects appear smaller as they get further away from you.
  • Objects appear closer together as they get away from you.
  • As objects get further away from you, their appearance becomes so small, and so close together, that they come to a single point, and vanish (my guess).

From these basic assumptions, lots of math is born, but as long as we know these basics, we will be okay. Now let’s see how to apply that in a real vanishing point perspective system.
