Illustrator CS5 Perspective Grid: Getting Started!

The Perspective Grid Feature is one of the big selling points of Illustrator CS5. Since it’s completely new, we’ll take it slow. Let’s take a look at where the tools are:

  • The Perspective Tool [Shift+P] can be found in the Tools bar. Use the perspective to alter your perspective: change vanishing points, shift grid planes, etc.
  • The Perspective Selection Tool [Shift+V] is the sub tool. Use this tool to select and move objects created in perspective. If you don’t, it will be moved as a regular object and be thrown off the grid!
  • View>Perspective is where you control your perspective views. Choose from 1-point, 2-point, or even 3-point perspectives!
  • Active Plane Widget shows up with you activate the perspective view [Ctrl+shift+I]. It lets you control which plane, if any, you are drawing on.
