InDesign Vertical Text Alignment in Frames with Corner Options (CS4 and prior)

Found this on InDesignSecrets.com [while looking up something else] on how to center text vertically in a text frame that has rounded corners or any other corner effect applied.

  • Simply apply an inset to the text frame to force the text to the vertical justification.
  • This gives the frame a rectangle into which the text can be centered or otherwise position.

Unfortunately, this still only works on rectangular frames. If the frame itself isn’t rectangular, InDesign still can’t do a vertical center text alignment.

UPDATE: CS5 will fix this. Thank goodness these updates aren’t just about major feature updates, but also about fixing and streamlining the small things in life.
